Why Zechsal OptiMSM?
- Sep 11, 2024
MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is a natural source of organic sulfur. Sulfur has been used therapeutically for centuries to treat various complaints and conditions. OptiMSM® is the purest form of MSM available.
MSM is easily absorbed by the body and is the biologically active form of sulfur. It naturally occurs in vegetables, fruits, and, for example, in milk from grass-fed cows. In the form offered by Zechsal, it is a white, odorless powder that dissolves well in (lukewarm) warm water.
It's no longer a given that we get enough organic sulfur to support all bodily processes that require it. Many people could benefit from extra sulfur to function well and to age healthily.
What does MSM do?
- MSM supports the formation of tendons and joints.
- It contributes to healthy skin, hair, and nails.
- Acts as an anti-inflammatory.
- Helps the immune system.
- Ensures that other nutrients are better absorbed.
Why is that?
The active ingredient in OptiMSM® is organic sulfur, a small molecule but a critical need for humans. It ranks fourth among the minerals that the body needs in large quantities.
Sulfur is required for the production of cartilage and connective tissue, supporting healthy tendons and joints, which is crucial for mobility.
Sulfur is an essential component of collagen, which supports skin structure. MSM makes the skin more elastic and the skin's protective layer more robust. Sulfur is also a building block of keratin, the main structural component of hair and nails.
Additional MSM increases the level of the antioxidant glutathione. Glutathione neutralizes free radicals in the body and supports the immune system, which is why MSM is also used to combat allergies.
MSM also increases the permeability of cell membranes and acts as a co-transporter of magnesium chloride, the magnesium used in Zechsal products. The absorption of magnesium is further enhanced by the use of MSM.

MSM has been studied for over forty years by scientists associated with the Health Sciences University in Oregon, USA. Professor Dr. W. Jacob M.D. has documented his experiences in several books: “The Miracle of MSM, the Natural Solution for Pain” (1999) and “MSM, the Definite Guide” (2003). OptiMSM® is the only type of MSM with published, peer-reviewed research.
OptiMSM® is the purest MSM available, thanks to its multi-step distillation process. It is produced by Bergstrom Nutrition in the USA.
Who can particularly benefit?
- Older adults.
- Allergy sufferers.
- People with chronic complaints.
- Endurance athletes.
MSM helps combat oxidative stress caused by prolonged training.
Additionally, MSM is recommended for anyone who could use a boost for skin and hair, wants to stay flexible, and aims to age healthily.
Dosage and Use
Via the skin:
Add a level tablespoon (about 10 grams) to a Zechsal foot bath. The combination of sulfur and Zechsal magnesium is optimally absorbed through the skin.
Oral:
A common guideline is to use 2 to 4 grams per day, divided into two doses. Dissolve the powder in water or fruit juice. For quick absorption, take on an empty stomach or before meals.
Tip: Gradually increase the dosage to prevent stomach or intestinal discomfort.
Note:
There are no objections or contraindications for long-term use. For higher intakes (more than 8 grams per day), it is advisable to consult a doctor.
Composition of Zechsal OptiMSM®
